    The rational serif carries the long reading, the humanist sans takes titles and captions above it: one family drawn for Inria, with the same three weights and italics on both sides.

BPOZZ Design Note

Inria Serif's x-height ratio matches Inria Sans exactly, so the two sit on one line without either looking smaller, and its lowercase is wider than most of the library's, a comfortable width for the long reading it carries.
